Expertise of the organization:
Fraunhofer IZFP-D has pushed forward technologies in the field of biophotonics and medical diagnosis systems during the last years. This includes the exploitation of direct light-matter interactions (IR absorption, Raman scattering, time-resolved fluorescence), imaging (especially optical coherence tomography), as well as the implementation of optical sensors (refractive index sensors, substrates for surface-enhanced spectroscopy, non-toxic optical markers, and scanning probes). In these works, the focus is typically on entire systems instead of single components. In particular, IZFP possesses comprehensive knowhow for the adaption of nanostructures for specific application environments, is experienced in integrating functional nanostructures into macroscopic sensor and detecting devices, and pursues innovative optical tool building.

Research interests & project ideas:
Holistic biophotonic systems for imaging and spectroscopy (IR absorption, Raman scattering, time-resolved fluorescence imaging and spectroscopy, optical coherence tomography); novel medical diagnosis systems; fabrication and implementation of optically active nanomaterials (plasmonic structures, non-toxic carbon-based biomarkers, optical scanning probes), biochemical functionalization; nanoscale (bio)analytics (REM, TEM, AFM, nanoscale mechanical material characterization, NSOM).
