Expertise of the organization:
Plasmonics and Nanomaterials Laboratory” has consolidated experience in: - production, characterization and modeling of metal and metal/oxide nano particles by chemical synthesis or laser ablation with TUNABLE extinction properties in visible and near infrared (UV/vis, TEM, z-potential, dynamic light scattering) (www.nanonabla.com). - production and characterization of surface enhanced raman scattering (SERS) or metal enhanced fluorescence (MEF) platforms(www.nanonabla.com) - production, characterization (ATR) and application of planar multilayers for surface plasmon resonance (SPR) or coupled waveguide plasmon resonance (CPWR) measurements. - development of SPR SFPS and CPWR based sensors for heavy metal detection and affinity reaction studies on solid supported biomimetic bilayer lipid membranes (ssBLM). -Finite Element Modelling of electromagnetic behavior of nanoparticles or nanostructured surfaces. The “Nanoscopy Laboratory”, has consolidated experience in: - AFM characterization of biological samples, including cells and tissues, with particular attention to the characterization of protein aggregates and fibrils. - Design and construction of AFM systems and development of control systems.

Research interests & project ideas:
- NIR Therapeutic and diagnostic methods based on the use of hollow metallic Ag/Au nanoparticles (nanocages) and gold nanostars - metal nanoparticles-based drug delivery - development of smart sers-based chips for nir detection of pesticides, heavy metals and environmental pollutants
